Public Rights of Way Bridleway CHIE/5A (Bussock Wood)
Improvements to Public Rights of Way Bridleway CHIE/5A (Bussock Wood) commencing 16/03/2026
Published: 16 March 2026
Starting on Monday there will be works done to CHIE/5A at the area shown attached.
This is an important route, one of the few Bridleways providing a traffic free link over the M4.
There is a section that is in particularly poor condition, and it is very challenging to all users. We are improving drainage, adding foundation material, topping with road plainings, and naturalising where appropriate or possible. We are also looking to make other minor improvements where possible, for example where the forestry work has damaged the surface.
I apologies for the short notice. This has been in process for over 2 years: set back by forestry work, the weather, and a shortage of certain key materials. All factors required are now in place.
We are not closing the PROW as the risk assessment doesn’t warrant this, meaning a TTRO is not required. Signage will be installed warning of works, and whilst the PROW will remain open, there may be short term delays to users on the route.
The contractor will be using small machinery with banking for public safety. They have a good track record, not just with WBC PROW, but they also work extensively for Wiltshire Council and having a background in agricultural contracting understand the nature of the project.
Please feel free to forward any queries about these works to me, as people may have concerns during the project.
For information – the funding for this project is CIL, not capital or revenue.
