Graces Lane Residents’ Traffic and Road Safety Questionnaire

Graces Lane Residents’ Traffic and Road Safety Questionnaire:

Published: 1 October 2026

A number of different shapes and sizes of items
Purpose of this survey
West Berkshire Council has recently changed the way in which they implement 20 mph zones
and are amending their plans so that future schemes are progressed only where significant public
support is clearly expressed, for example, by local residents, community groups, and town and
parish councils. Chieveley Parish Council is therefore seeking the views of residents. In this
survey we are asking residents of Graces Lane and nearby properties about traffic, vehicle
speeds, road safety and the general use of Graces Lane.
Graces Lane is currently a two-way road with a 30 mph speed limit. Much of the road is narrow,
there are limited or no pavements, there is no street lighting, and pedestrians, cyclists, horses
riders and vehicles often need to share the available road space.
The Parish Council has received concerns relating to matters including vehicle speeds, large
vehicles using the road, damage to walls, fences and parked vehicles, and the safety of
pedestrians and other road users.
This survey is intended to establish whether these concerns are shared by residents and, if so,
what measures residents believe should be considered.
The results will help Chieveley Parish Council decide whether it should ask West Berkshire
Council, as the highway authority, to investigate Graces Lane and consider possible
changes.
Completing the questionnaire does not imply support for any particular measure and the Parish
Council cannot guarantee the actions of West Berkshire Council.
The survey is only addressed to relevant households in Graces Lane or nearby properties, and they will have the questionnaire delivered in the next few days.
